Well I fished the Bassmaster Weekend Series on Old Hickory this past Friday and Saturday. I fished the TN East division just to be able to fish this tournament. The lake doesn't fit my style of fishing but I know the lake pretty well and thought I could put something together. I only had about 4 hrs of practice due to my less then trusty Mercury 250 PRO XS craping out on me 2 days in a row. The first day I got an hour into it and she went down. I took it to Clark Marine and found a bad nuetral switch. I went back out on Wednesday and bam down right out of the gate. This time we actually found a bad coil on #1 cylinder. I test ran it on Priest that evening and it ran fine.
Race day I was boat 65 and ran up river to spencer creek to the back and in 45 minutes had a limit of 10+ lbs. I culled up several times throughout the day but it was mearly ounces at a time. I left that spot early and went hunting for new flats. I was in 12th place at the end of Day 1.
Day 2 I was boat 105 and headed back to my spot. However when I got there I seen 2 boats that was obviously following a bent rod pattern. They watched me from the bridge catch fish. One was a red skeeter from Wisconson. Shame on you Northern Roadies. I fished my little ditch for 2 hrs and nothing a few dinks. So I knew the fish usually turned on again around noon to 1pm so I left and went looking at my other stuff. Dinks dinks dinks. At 1pm I had ZERO keepers and i was beginning to worry. I went back to my spot and like clock work they turned on and I had 4 keepers in about 15 minutes and my non boater had 2. Time to run and I had to check one more spot. I pulled in and on my 5th cast caught my last fish and had to go.
I weighed in a little over 8lbs and ended up with 19 and some change. Good enough for 7th place out of 169 boats.
My bait of choice was a 1/4 oz Red Eye Shad in Sexy Shad with the Chartruese line on the sides. All my fish came in 1ft or less water. I really think the chartuese was the key. My non boaters had sexy shad but not with Chart. and I caught at least 8 to their one bass.
All in all I had a good tournament.
Thanks
