Nathan, Well alls it takes is money. Actually Nathan what are you fishing now and how much tournament experience do you have?
1. If you have no tournament or little tournament experience I would suggest joining a local bass club. I am the founder and president of F-3 out of Nashville, we fish 8 tournaments a year and averaged 10-14 guys and the top 6 get to go on and compete for the TN West state championship and on to the FLW All American. It is cheap and you get to learn alot of information on the local lakes.
2. I would also suggest joining the Bassmaster/ABA weekend series as a co-angler for a year or two. Just to get a feel of how a tournament is run and how they operate, the ethics of bass fishing.
3. If you have done a year or so of some local stuff go ahead and join the Angler or boater side of the BWS or BFL's, boater is $200 and coanglers is $100. The BWS gives you the chan ce at 5 local tournaments, 1 regional and 1 national and a shot at the Bassmaster Classic. You cant get any bigger then that.
4. if you have the money you can jump out and fish the Bass southern or northern opens, compete against 200+ guys and many of them are BASS Elite anglers but the entry is spendy.
Let me know if this helps and where you stand on your tournament history.

Gregg huh, how is he? I have not seen him in awhile. He should be able to teach you quite a bit about fishing, i know he helped me out up in Minnesota. Tell that weasel to give me a email or shout sometime.
How well do you place in some of these tournaments?
I would suggest starting out by fishing 1 year as a non-boater in the Bassmaster / ABA weekend series. The fish different lakes and you should learn alot about how tournaments are run and won. Then the 2nd year if you done well, jump up and go on the boater side if you have a boat.

Gregg is doing good. He teaches me quite abit he knows alot. he don't fish a whole lot anymore though. In the riverside i did pretty well over all in points like 10th but the other ones vary. I may not even be ready to do it but at the same time you never know till you try so. I feel like I'm ready i just needed some advice on where to go with it. i fish about 4 to 5 days a week and i just want to keep progressing.thanks for helping me. do you know a link for the weekend series.

Nathan, All Billy's advice has been spot on, I think the key early on is to fish as a non-boater in the Weekend Series or BFL or fish in a club, both ways you get to fish with a bunch of different anglers, you can only learn so much fishing by yourself or with the same couple guys.
Also, tell Greg to give me a shout as well!

Ya I was there fishing a tournament for our club f-3. I won the event with 12.96lbs 5 fish. I caught all them on a home made jig that I hand tied for this event. I didn't see you up there. You should have yelled at me.
Nathan I will call my buddy and let him know you are available for linking.
