A buddy, Ron Taylor and I went out from 6:15 to 8:00 last night on Priest. We launched at Stewarts creek and the plan was to hit some of my favorite ledges. The water temps was 85 degrees, partly cloudy skies, not a ripple of wind and great water color as it has come up a foot or two.
We started out on a ledge with jigs. Our first bite was actually a double on Chompers football jigs. His was a keeper 16" fish and mine was short. We noticed a lot of short fish schooling on the surface but decided they were not worth fishing for. We moved shallow for a few mintues and I was throwing a Magic Pop-R type bait and hooked up on a nice 3lb bass. We then moved from ledge to ledge trying to find a good school of bass but it was kinda slow. The last ledge we stopped on we started catching some quality fish. My next keeper was a nice 3lb bass on a jig. A few casts later I hooked up on a 20" bass that would go about 5lbs. I lost a couple good fish and then caught another nice 2lb bass. The last fish we caught was a decent keeper about 1.5lbs and the day was done. We headed back into the ramp about 8pm. We guessed our best five would have gone around 14 to 15lbs. Not bad for just a few hours of fishing.
