Rob Kennedy, fellow F-3 angler head out to Priest yesterday. It was a cold morning and started out with a bang then action slowed way down and then fast and furious at the end.
Water Temps 48-49
Clarity - 3ft
Clear blue bird sky - thank goodness for my www.JKRUZEYEWEAR.COM Sunglasses as the glare from the water was tremendous.
flat water
TOUGH DAY
We headed out around 8:15 from Fate Sanders and went down lake to try our hand at some smallies. We pulled into suggs creek and fished the rock humps at the mouth. About 5 minutes into it I had a tap on my trusty bitsy bug in watermelon. Set the hook and immediately knew it was a good fish. I pulled her up out of about 15ft of water. She saw the boat and I saw it was a big brownie, maybe 4-5lbs. As luck had it she popped off!
We moved to the Elm hill bluff where I had been catching some good KY SPots but no takes. News flash I caught my 1st keepr Largemouth off a drop shot. I caught a 15.5" LM on some little green worm in about 40ft of water. I only felt weight and up she came. It was my only fish on the drop shot today.
Rob caught the big fish of the day on a bluff near long hunter using a 7/16 oz brown jig. Probably 16.5" or so.
We moved around lake hitting points, brush, ledges and other bluffs looking for those good SPOTS but did not catch one KY Spot all day.
We pulled into Hong Kong Island and fished the bluff on the main lake side. My 3rd cast yielded a LM. I ended up with 4 more LM before leaving.
We then hit the last bluff around 2 pm and caught 5 or 6 more. Most of the fish we caught today were in the 20-40 foot range.
We saw some guys catching some toad crappie out of some deep deep water on jigs. I may give that a try on Monday.
